چکیده

IEEE 802.15.4 standard specifies the Medium Access Control (MAC) and Physical (PHY) layer for wireless sensor networks (WSN) applications with limited power and low data rate. This standard supports time critical applications by allowing TDMA based access in beacon enabled networks. In these networks, the PAN coordinator exchanges data with the end devices through guaranteed time slots (GTS). The PAN coordinator can allocate GTS on a first come first serve (FCFS) basis in response to the requests by end devices. In original standard, the coordinator can assign up to the maximum seven GTSs. This fixed number of GTS allocation may result in inefficient utilization of channel bandwidth. In this paper, we propose a new GTS allocation scheme that will set the GTS size adaptively in accordance with the data size of the end device. We call it as GTS Size Adaptation Algorithm (GSAA) and it will optimally use the GTS resources. Simulations have been performed to validate the proposed GSAA. © 2015 Elsevier B.V. An Energy Efficient Clustering Method using Bat Algorithm and Mobile Sink in Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) consist of sensor nodes with limited energy. Energy efficiency is an important issue in WSNs as the sensor nodes are deployed in rugged and non-care areas and consume a lot of energy to send data to the central station or sink if they want to communicate directly with the sink. Recently, the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol is employed as a low-power, low-cost, and low rat...

Adaptive GTS allocation in IEEE 802.15.4 for real-time wireless sensor networks

The IEEE 802.15.4 standard is able to achieve lowpower transmissions in low-rate and short-distance Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs). It supports a Guaranteed Time Slots (GTSs) allocation mechanism for time-critical and delay-sensitive data transmissions. However, the inflexible FirstCome-First-Served (FCFS) GTS allocation policy and passive deallocation mechanism significantly impair ne...

An optimal GTS scheduling algorithm for time-sensitive transactions in IEEE 802.15.4 networks

IEEE 802.15.4 is a new enabling standard for low-rate wireless personal area networks and has been widely accepted as a de facto standard for wireless sensor networking. While primary motivations behind 802.15.4 are low power and low cost wireless communications, the standard also supports time and rate sensitive applications because of its ability to operate in TDMA access modes. The TDMA mode...

Queue Size Trade Off with Modulation in 802.15.4 for Wireless Sensor Networks

In this paper we analyze the performance of 802.15.4 Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) and derive the queue size trade off for different modulation schemes like: Minimum Shift Keying (MSK), Quadrature Amplitude Modulation of 64 bits (QAM_64) and Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) at the radio transmitter of different types of devices in IEEE 802.15.4 for WSN. It is concluded that if queue size at the...

Energy and delay trade-off of the GTS allocation mechanism in IEEE 802.15.4 for wireless sensor networks

The IEEE 802.15.4 protocol proposes a flexible communication solution for low-rate wireless personal area networks (LR-WPAN) including wireless sensor networks (WSNs). It presents the advantage to fit different requirements of potential applications by adequately setting its parameters. When in beaconenabled mode, the protocol can provide timeliness guarantees by using its Guaranteed Time Slot ...
